Store related business records, query them with SQL and manage database access, backup and recovery workflows. Microsoft SQL Server 2022 Standard (2-Core) is Microsoft's relational database engine. The 2022 release connects to Azure (a link to Azure SQL Managed Instance for disaster recovery, Azure Synapse Link and Microsoft Purview), adds ledger tables that make changes tamper-evident, contained availability groups, parameter-sensitive plan optimisation, Query Store switched on by default and backup to S3-compatible object storage. A database organizes information into related structures, while SQL queries retrieve and process the records needed by an application or report. Administration includes deciding who can connect, managing access and planning backup and recovery. Those operational tasks matter alongside query design: a functioning database needs a maintenance plan as well as data and application code. The Standard 2-Core label refers to a core-licensing unit, not two computers. SQL Server core licensing requires at least four core licences per server or virtual machine, so a single 2-core pack is not enough on its own. Establish the required quantity before treating this unit as a complete server licence. The Standard edition and version should also be matched to the application and operating system being deployed.
