Overview

Find the folders and files consuming storage space before deciding what to archive or remove. FolderSizes Disk Space Analyzer shows where disk space goes on local drives, network shares and UNC paths. Folder sizes appear in a sortable list with bar and pie charts and a folder map, and built-in searches find large, old or duplicate files. Reports can be exported to Excel, PDF, HTML, CSV or XML, and scans can be run from the command line. Start with a drive or folder and inspect how its capacity is distributed. Large directories become easier to identify when their size is visible in a report rather than hidden several levels down a folder tree. File-level information then helps explain whether the space is occupied by media, archives, logs or other content. This supports a deliberate storage-cleanup process: identify a concentration of data, determine why it is there and decide whether to retain, archive or remove it. It can also help explain why a shared storage location is growing before additional capacity is purchased or a retention policy is changed. A disk-space report describes content and allocation; it does not test the physical condition of a drive or determine that a large file is safe to delete. Access permissions affect scan coverage, especially on network locations. Compare like-for-like paths and scan settings when reviewing results over time.
