The vSAN layer pools compatible host storage and applies virtual-machine storage policies within the permitted desktop environment. A desktop environment needs storage for its guest systems and the permitted supporting services. Administrators configure the compatible cluster and choose policies suited to those desktop workloads, then monitor capacity and health. Storage availability depends on the physical design and selected protection policy, not merely on the edition name. The vendor Desktop licensing family restricts use to virtual desktops, permitted session-based desktop or application delivery and associated management or monitoring tools. It should not be selected as a general-purpose server-consolidation license. Desktop identifies the intended infrastructure workload, not a local Windows desktop application such as Workstation. It does not automatically include Horizon, a connection broker, guest operating-system licenses or every supporting component.
