Overview

Run isolated virtual-server workloads directly on compatible physical hardware. VMware vSphere Hypervisor ESXi 7.0u3g is a bare-metal hypervisor installed directly on compatible server hardware. It runs multiple virtual machines with separate guest operating systems and configurable compute, network and storage resources. This standalone Hypervisor edition is managed per host with the ESXi Host Client and cannot be added to vCenter Server for centralized management. Installation places the virtualization layer on a suitable physical host rather than inside a conventional Windows or macOS desktop session. Administrators configure the host's management network and storage, then create virtual machines with the resources required by each workload. The guest operating systems provide the application environments that run above that layer. This arrangement supports consolidating several server roles on one machine while keeping their guest installations distinct. Practical capacity depends on the hardware and workload demands, not simply on the number of virtual machines that can be created. Storage and network-adapter compatibility are especially important because the hypervisor must operate those devices directly. ESXi is not the same product as Workstation or Fusion. This edition does not include vCenter management, vMotion or HA. Check the precise edition and release against the server's compatibility information. Guest operating systems are licensed separately.
