Overview
Build a work schedule, estimate effort and compare planned dates with progress. Microsoft Project 2021 is Microsoft's desktop project-scheduling program. Break the work into tasks, link dependencies, see the schedule as a Gantt chart and the critical path, assign resources and costs, level over-allocated people, save a baseline to compare plan with progress, and share status through the Timeline view and built-in reports. Break the project into activities, estimate their duration and connect tasks through dependencies. Assign resources to show how people or other capacity contribute to the schedule. As work proceeds, compare progress with the plan and review how a changed task or resource assignment affects the dates around it. Task and resource views provide different perspectives on the same plan. The value of the schedule depends on the information entered: working calendars, dependencies and assignments all influence the result. The desktop planning workflow does not mean that Project Online, cloud collaboration or another organization’s server access is included. The Standard or Professional edition and its supported integrations should match the intended workflow. Microsoft support for Project 2021 ends on 13 October 2026, after which it no longer receives security updates.
