Overview

Consolidate workloads across a small ESXi host estate with centralized management through the kit’s vCenter Server for Essentials component. VMware vSphere 8.0b Essentials Kit belongs to the VMware server virtualization platform built around ESXi. It provides the virtualization layer for running separate guest operating systems on physical servers, with configurable CPU, memory, storage and network resources for each virtual machine. Centralized management uses a compatible vCenter Server deployment. The operational workflow starts with compatible servers running ESXi and virtual machines configured for their workloads. CPU, memory, network and storage resources are assigned to each guest, allowing applications with separate operating systems to share the physical infrastructure. A compatible vCenter deployment adds a centralized management view where the environment calls for it. This is useful for consolidating server workloads and making their configuration more consistent. Hardware compatibility, datastore design and management networking should be planned together because a virtual machine depends on all of them. The platform provides the foundation; available cluster functions depend on the exact host edition, supporting components and deployment configuration. vSphere features depend on the licensed edition, so check that the features you plan to use belong to this edition. The official Essentials Kit packaging includes vCenter Server for Essentials. Guest operating systems and any vSAN or other add-on components are licensed separately. vSphere is installed on the server hardware, not as a Windows application. Essentials kits are limited to three hosts with up to two processors each and are managed by vCenter Server Essentials.
