Overview
Combine bracketed exposures and adjust tone mapping or exposure fusion to balance bright and dark areas. HDR Photomatix Pro 7 merges bracketed exposures into one HDR image and then tone-maps or fuses it into a photo with detail in both highlights and shadows. It aligns hand-held shots, removes ghosts from moving people or objects with selectable masks, offers preset styles including real-estate looks, batch-processes many brackets and also runs as a Lightroom plug-in. Bring the exposures together and choose a rendering approach. Tone mapping and exposure fusion provide different ways to combine or interpret the source information, allowing the result to range from restrained to more expressive. The process also involves practical image checks: alignment matters, and subjects that moved between exposures can create ghosting that needs attention. Version 7 includes the core Photomatix HDR workflow. A good result starts with suitable source photographs; processing cannot compensate for every problem in the capture. Compare the image with the intended scene and avoid pushing contrast or detail merely for its own sake. Keep the original exposures so that the rendering can be revisited with different settings later.
