Output goes to Word, Excel, searchable PDF, WordPerfect, HTML, ePub and other formats; workflows and batch jobs process files from watched folders or e-mail unattended, and Kofax PaperPort is included for document management. The process begins with a scan, image or PDF containing text that is not readily editable. Select the recognition language and conversion settings, run OCR and review the result. The recovered text can then be reused in an editable document or retained as searchable content, reducing the need to retype a paper record. Layout matters as well as character recognition. A table, a form or a multi-column page needs a suitable output choice and a review of reading order. Batch and workflow functions help repeat the same conversion process across a collection of documents when the input material is reasonably consistent.
