Monitoring focuses on the ongoing behavior of an application rather than a single developer test. The dashboard provides a starting point for identifying slow or abnormal activity, then transaction and call information helps narrow the investigation to the affected part of the system. Historical telemetry gives context for deciding whether a change is new or recurring. For a service spread across Java processes, connected transaction information can make it easier to understand how a request passes through the application. Alerts and configured thresholds help draw attention to conditions worth investigating, while detailed views support the subsequent diagnosis. The monitoring server and application agents must be configured with appropriate connectivity and access. Useful results depend on collecting the transactions and metrics relevant to the application; monitoring cannot diagnose an operation that is outside the configured visibility.
